Harmful substances
The Hohenstein Institute is one of two founding members of the OEKO-TEX® Standards 100, 1000 and 100plus and the associated "Confidence in Textiles" label.
With its international testing and certification system, this has stood for security throughout the textile manufacturing chain since 1992 and can today be found on millions of products. A large number of these have been tested at the laboratories of the Hohenstein Institute on the basis of the annually updated criteria catalogue. The over 100 individual parameters include
- Fastness to perspiration
- Rub fastness
- Fastness to water
- Fastness to saliva
- Banned azo dyestuff (Carcinogenic aromatic amines)
- Carcinogenic and allergy-inducing dyestuffs
- Pesticides
- Formaldehyde
- Extractable heavy metals
- Chloro-organic compounds
- Phthalates
- Tin-organic compounds (DBT, TBT)
- PAK (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons)
- PFOA/PFOS (Perfluorooctanoic acid/Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid)
- Skin-friendly pH value
In addition to the OEKO-TEX® tests for harmful substances, we also provide neutral, independent certification of textile auxiliaries according to the requirements of the Eco-Passport, carry out general tests for harmful substances and test the biological safety (biocompatibility) of textiles. All with the aim of ensuring maximum skin-compatibility of the products and thus helping to avoid skin irritation and allergic reactions. You can pass on this security to your customers by means of the Hohenstein Quality Label.
In terms of the compliance of your products with the REACh regulation, we can provide advice on the applicable requirements and carry out the relevant tests for harmful substances as required.
